Radios and Firefighter Safety
If you’ve ever been faced with extreme danger, you know how important it is to communicate with the men and women who will take you to safety, but what protects the men and women who there to protect us? In truth, these men and women have some of the most high tech protection available…the radio.
When you think about the harrowing situations that firefighters and police encounter on a daily basis, it makes perfect sense that these men and women be armed with the most advantageous communication system possible. Can you imagine being inside a burning building, doing your best to make necessary rescues, when you come across a victim who is unable to move and requires additional assistance? Imagine trying to use a cell phone to make contact with additional EMS personnel and finding that you have no signal. While digital technology is wonderful, it’s often not reliable, and in life threatening situations it’s imperative to have a reliable source of communication. Nothing beats a radio when it comes to reliability and efficiency in emergency situations.
Not only do these firefighter radios aid in rescues of others; they are also a key component in insuring the safety of the firefighters themselves. It’s very important that a firefighting crew can keep in contact with support on the ground. For example, during the 9-11 disaster, the firefighters inside the Twin Towers used information from the ground for navigation and avoidance of areas that were judged to be structurally unstable. As a result, even in the midst of one of the greatest disasters of our time, many firefighters’ lives were saved thanks in part to the use of fire radios.
Some of the most commonly used, and highest rated radios used by firefighter and other emergency responders are the Bendix King, the DPH portable, and the DMH mobile. These radios have been proven reliable and efficient again and again.
If it’s your goal to provide someone you love with the ultimate tool in portable safety, consider purchasing a portable two-way radio. These radios can be beneficial for no only emergency responders, but also for the avid sportsman who might find himself in a difficult situation in the woods, the skier who enjoys hitting the slopes alone, and even the rocker climber who enjoys facing new challenges regularly. Take some of the worry out of your life by providing your loved one with a way to get help when it’s needed.
